As Vienna’s Future Food Week moves toward its finale on 10 October, the city is closing out ten days of tastings, talks, workshops and collaborative dinners that explore how we will cook, eat and produce food in the years ahead.
Created by POPCHOP as a platform for food innovation and cultural storytelling, the festival has unfolded across bakeries, bars, markets and neighbourhood kitchens, bringing together chefs, designers, farmers, students and producers to examine the ecological, social and creative forces shaping tomorrow’s food systems.
The final days still offer plenty to experience. Communal cooking sessions, neighbourhood‑driven dining events, natural wine collaborations, fermentation workshops and experimental tastings continue across the city, from Brunnenmarkt to XPEDIT and Rausch Bar. There are doughnut‑economy discussions, izakaya nights, buttery wine‑pairing dinners, open‑house tastings of ferments and preserves, and brunch‑style menus designed for slow, shared eating. Even ice cream gets a future‑food twist, with limited‑edition flavours built around aged miso and Thai curry.
The festival closes on 10 October with a celebratory night at Rausch Bar, where cocktail specials and live performances bring together the community that has shaped the week. It’s a fitting end to a festival that blends pleasure with purpose — a citywide invitation to rethink how food connects us, nourishes us and evolves with us.
